Harvesting Gratitude

To breathe in the earthly aroma of the heavy and damp notes of freshly watered soil is one of the most taken for granted experiences on this planet. Standing barefoot in my garden as I water earth that will eventually blossom into a growth that will sustain my existence, I allow my thoughts to wander unrestricted into fully formed ideas towards an unknown destination... If we could imagine for a moment removing ourselves from the natural environment in which we are fortunate enough to be born into, how easy it is to assume the depth to which we would yearn to once again obtain the experiences we daily take for granted now. It would capture the totality of our thoughts, desires and imagination. To feel the cool ocean breeze, the crunch underfoot after a freshly fallen snow, to be kissed on the cheek by the salty brine of the oceans mist, to be greeted by the surprise of a flowers annual bloom is to be a creature of this earth. Living in symbiosis with our natural environment is to be in paradise. Generations removed would spend eternity searching to replicate the perfection that has been naturally provided to us simply through our conception. The active appreciation of what has become taken for granted is to unlock a gratitude for simply possessing life. The harnessing of such, to direct that gratitude and call on it in times of need is to manifest a mental freedom from a naturally occurring resource that has no limit to its harvest.  How lucky we are to be alive today on this perfectly balanced and deeply romantic orb. We can’t for a second afford to squander such a priceless and profound gift.
